THE “ELVIS PRESS CONFERENCE MURDER” – A PREVIEW

You may have noticed on LadyLuck’s upcoming concerts/events page, a note about an Elvis murder mystery/dinner taking place on February l4 and on April 12 in Dundas, Ontario.

There have been a number of inquiries about this, and I thought it would be a good idea to introduce you to Paul Wainwright, the author of the mystery -- and to illustrate this column with photos of previous murder mysteries that he has staged. Next month, we hope to have some photos and a review of the Elvis Murder Mystery!

Elvis fans in Ontario, plus listeners of radio stations Oldies ll50 and 820 CHAM in Hamilton, Ontario, have long been familiar with DJ Paul Wainwright, who has worked in Hamilton radio since l986. He also does the weekend news during the summer months on K-LITE FM. In addition, Paul has been an MC at many Elvis events, festivals, fundraisers, etc.

Ten years ago, Paul started his own murder mystery company, and between radio shifts he is also an actor in television commercials. He’s appeared in commercials for Bell Sympatico, Nike, Labatts, Canadian Airlines and he’s recently landed the lead role in the new Post Cereal commercial which will be on air in February.

He is also an assistant director in feature films and has worked with David Cronenburg, John Woo, Rene Harlan -- and has been on set with Holly Hunter, Goldie Hawn, James Spader, Geena Davis, Kurt Russell, Cybil Sheppard and others.

As mentioned above, Paul acts as MC at many events -- Elvis-related and otherwise. Last April, he was the MC at a fundraiser put on by Elvis entertainers, The Graceliners, where he also met one of the Graceliners, Cindy Cowitz, whom he now dates. Cindy’s mother, Louise Cowitz, is an avid Elvis fan and promoter, and she suggested to Paul that one of his upcoming mysteries be an Elvis-themed murder. Paul liked the idea and has been working on this (and thoroughly researching Elvis) for months. The end result is that on February l4 the “Elvis Press Conference Murder” will make its debut. It promises to be a night of “mayhem, murder, Elvis, great food, and fun for all.” (NOTE: The February l4th show has sold out...a second show has been scheduled for Saturday, April 12).
